The Reception

Our wedding reception is taking place at Hartwell House, a Jacobean and Georgian country house which is owned by the National Trust but is being operated as a hotel and spa. The house is set in over 90 acres of gardens and parkland, and it was built between 1570 and 1617 by Sir Alexander Hampden. Over almost a thousand years, Hartwell House has had many notable residents, including William Peveral, son of William the Conqueror; of John Earl of Mortaigne who succeeded his brother Richard the Lion Heart as King of England in 1199; and its most famous resident, Louis XVIII, exiled King of France, who held court here from 1809 to 1814. Hartwell House is also the place where, in 1850, the Royal Meteorological Society was formed – so let’s hope the weather will be on our side for our day!
