The Ceremony
Our wedding ceremony is taking place at the ancient and beautiful St. John the Baptist Church in Little Missenden. Nestled in the Misbourne Valley of Buckinghamshire this Church has over a thousand years of history and spiritual significance, having been originally built in the year 975 by the Anglo-Saxon Christians.
The Church has had many additions and extensions over the centuries, including the vestry commissioned by Katy’s grandfather Rev. Canon Francis Roberts in the 1970s, but by far the most eye-catching element of the Church is the original medieval wall paintings dating from the late 12th century. These paintings depict Christ as well as saints such as Catherine and Christopher, and helped people in medieval times who were unable to read to access Bible stories visually. The Church also has original stained-glass windows dating back hundreds of years.
The wedding officiant will be the Revd. John Simpson assisted by Revd. Doug Zimmerman. The ceremony will be a traditional Marriage Service using liturgy from the Church of England’s Common Worship. This means that the ceremony will include hymns, prayers and blessings to reflect Katy and Jason’s Christian faith, and their devotion to God and one another. All who attend the ceremony are welcome to join in with the hymns and prayers, and experience the joy and peace of being in a historic building where couples have celebrated and solidified their commitment together for centuries.
We have selected three hymns for the service which are special to us. If you would like to listen to the hymns we have chosen, click the videos below.
